Brand New Topographics

Brand New Topographics was first introduced as an exhibition by William Jenkins in 1975. It was held at the International Museum of Photography in New York. The original Photographers who were chosen by Jenkins to exhibited their landscape photography were Robert Adams, Lewis Baltz, Bernd and Hilla Beches, Frank Gohlke and Stephen Shore. The focus of the photos they took were on man-altered landscapes. ‘Stylistic anonymity’ has been a way of describing the series. A topographic state is just a detailed and precise honest description of the location.
